This is our waterproof vibration proof socket plug combination for marine and motorcycle applications.
Like allot of thing, two products may look alike but are of different qualities. Same goes for 12 volt sockets like these. This socket has the following quality features:
-True locking socket- works with included locking plug and all 12 volt style accessory plugs.
-Brass plated terminals will not rust.
-Tight fitting opening cap.
-Virgin UV stabilized materials.
-Rubber sealing washer prevents mount loosening and make a waterproof seal.
Lower cost imported sockets are of inferior quality and are not locking sockets. They have steel contact, poor plastic and loose fitting caps.
The plug skirt shown slides over this plug as shown. When the plug is inserted into the power outlet / socket the boot presses up against the socket surface and forms a seal. No more blown fuses or intermittent operation. The socket comes with sealing cap that will keep the socket sealed when not using the plug.
The locking socket is marine grade and is weather and UV resistant. The contacts are nickel plated over brass. The socket is vibration resistant, unlike less expensive versions. It requires an 1 1/8″ hole for mounting and has .250 quick male connectors matching female connectors are included. The rubber terminal boot protects the terminals from weather. It can be mounted against a panel with the retaining nut or use the compression plate to mount on thicker panels. Both the socket and mount are made of heavy gauge nylon plastic. With the straight socket cap and boot in place the assembly is virtually waterproof. The socket is rated for 15 amp at 12 Volts, Draws no power when no being used.
The locking plug is also marine grade, weather / UV resistant and vibration resistant when locked in the socket assisted by the rubber seals and locking mechanism. A locking plug looks like a regular male lighter plug but when twisted in this socket can not be pulled out, unless twisted again. The plug has nickle contacts and rubber seals, screw wire connections, an internal fuse, built in LED power indicator and is rated at 8 amps.
